Lions Club of Bushenyi
A Legacy of Service
The Bushenyi Lions Club, a beacon of community service in the heart of our region, has had an incredibly vibrant and impactful year. Rooted in the global mission of Lions Clubs International, we've strived to embody the motto “We Serve,” and our recent activities reflect that commitment.
The Bushenyi Lions Club, like many Lions Clubs around the world, was founded on the principles of fellowship, service, and community betterment. Since its inception, our club has been a vital part of the Bushenyi landscape, responding to local needs and contributing to broader humanitarian efforts.
Over the years, we've engaged in countless projects, from providing essential resources to vulnerable populations to promoting health and well-being. This enduring legacy of service has shaped our identity and continues to drive our work today. We are proud to stand on the shoulders of the dedicated Lions who came before us, and we are committed to upholding their vision for a stronger, more compassionate community.
Serving with Heart and Action
Environment
Environment protection talks and actions, e.g., tree planting with schools.
This past year has been particularly active, filled with projects that have touched the lives of many. We began by focusing on the crucial issue of eye health among youth. Recognizing that clear vision is essential for education and development, we organized eye screening initiatives at schools like Bweranyangi Girls. The joy and gratitude we witnessed as students received necessary eye care were truly heartwarming.
Friendship Day at Nyamushekyera Prison
On Friendship Day, we visited Nyamushekyera Prison, spending time with the inmates. This experience served as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the importance of extending kindness and understanding to all.
Diabetes Prevention Activities
In response to the growing prevalence of diabetes, we prioritized promoting healthy lifestyles. Our weekly aerobics sessions became a popular and effective way for community members to stay active and manage their health.
We also organized a highly successful Diabetic Marathon, which included:
- Diabetes screening
- Invigorating aerobics
- A spirited walk and run
- An awards ceremony recognizing dedication to healthy living
The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, demonstrating the power of collective action in promoting well-being.
