New Voices

Who are the New Voices (Uganda)?
The New Voices initiative calls for a diversified and increase approach to grow Lions membership to meet every need.

We can count some, but are still seeking to recruit more! The 1.4 million Lion members worldwide are the regular or ‘old’ voices. These are ‘conventional’ in nature, and work conventionally even when they join Lions. They are recruited from standard professions, like banking, law, medicine, the public service, and privileged persons with a public profile. ‘Old’ voices have a voice already.

When they speak the world listens. But these are not the only people with a ‘voice’ and means to serve! Prospective Lion members outside these conventions, married or single, able to meet and serve physically or digitally constitute the New Voices. They may come from among armed forces, teachers, academics, medics, writers, visual and performing artists, filmmakers, media practitioners, sportsmen and women, business people, and many others including organizations and associations that may want to serve humanity together as a block.
In which ways can New Voices serve?
As New Voices together with the ‘old’ voices, we can spread our wings wider to cover every home, community, and the whole country. Our presence and service can create massive impact in immeasurable ways. In Europe, for example, New Voices transformed from an initiative into a movement. They hold firesides every after two months; they run storytelling sessions and contests, and organize cooking projects where they share simple recipes to delight every tongue. That way, they have built bridges of friendship and stronger teams of leaders and membership. The experiences may not differ much from the other places.
How then can the New Voices build success in Uganda (and Africa)?
Africa is much diverse hence has more opportunities for success and impact. For example, through culture and sports (both traditional and contemporary), food bazaars, fashion parades and modelling, and performances of music, dance, games, and language. Those unique things that make us who we are and stand out of the crowd. The ideas are many. We highlight a few in the proposals herebelow. Our prayer is for the DG’s Team and the leadership of the different clubs to pick some and integrate in their plans. It works well for all of us. Let’s go on and achieve together.
