Kamwenge Lions Club

Location: Kamwenge Town Council, Kamwenge District, Western Uganda.
The Kamwenge Host Lions Club is an active branch of Lions Clubs International, operating within District 411-B, which encompasses Uganda. As of December 2023, the club comprised 54 members, with a notable representation of 11 women among them.
The club was founded by Gerald Twebaze, who serves as its Charter President and holds the position of Zone 10 Chairperson. Under his leadership, the Kamwenge Host Lions Club has been instrumental in initiating and participating in various community
One of their significant initiatives includes an environmental conservation campaign launched at the Tooro Botanical Gardens. This project focuses on planting indigenous and medicinal trees to combat deforestation and promote biodiversity. The campaign also aims to support rural communities by providing training on cultivating and sustainably using medicinal plants, thereby enhancing both environmental and community health.
The Kamwenge Host Lions Club actively engages in projects that align with the Lions Clubs International's mission of serving communities. Their activities are geared towards addressing pressing environmental challenges, promoting health and wellness, and fostering sustainable development within the region.

Previous Projects

  1. Nutrition Gardens Established in St. Thomas Aquinas College and Kamwenge Primary School to combat malnutrition.
  2. Tree Planting Signature Project Over 5 acres of trees planted, targeting expansion for environmental conservation.
  3. Community Sanitation Town cleaning campaigns in Kamwenge.
  4. Support to Kamwenge Prison Donations of basic needs to inmates.
  5. *Artificial Limb Donation* Donated a prosthetic leg to a young girl who had undergone amputation.
  6. LCIF Support Remitted $3,000 to the Lions Clubs International Foundation, surpassing the year’s goal.
  7. Disaster Relief Raised UGX 534,500 for victims of the Kitezi incident in Kampala suburbs.
  8. Health & Wellness Diabetes Walk and aerobics sessions launched.
  9. Fellowship & Swalloship Events Monthly engagements to plan, bond, and execute service projects.
